Why create an account?
An account is completely free and optional. You can browse the directory, shop, and even build a wishlist without one — a signed-out wishlist is saved in your browser. Creating an account adds one thing: your wishlist syncs across every device you sign in on (phone, laptop, tablet) and is kept safe even if you clear your browser.
How sign-in works
Authentication is handled by Clerk, a dedicated and widely-used authentication provider, so your password is never stored on our own servers. You can sign up with an email address and password, or continue with Google, GitHub, Apple, or X. We only ever store your email address and your wishlist — nothing more.
Will I get an email after signing up?
Yes. When you sign up with an email and password, you’ll receive a verification email right away with a code to confirm your address — this is a one-time step to make sure the account is really yours. (If you sign up with Google, Apple, GitHub, or X, that provider has already verified you, so there’s usually no verification email.)
Who the email comes from: These verification and security emails are sent automatically by our authentication provider, Clerk. They arrive from Clerk’s secure default sending address and show “The Change District” as the sender name.
What we’ll email you: Only account & security messages — address verification, password resets, and sign-in codes. We do not send marketing or promotional emails. If you don’t see the verification email, check your spam or promotions folder.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time. Deleting it removes your synced wishlist from our database. Your browser’s local wishlist can be cleared separately by clearing your saved items.
