Its production generates, on average, 19x fewer CO₂ emissions than animal leather, while offering comparable durability and feel. 1 m² of AppleSkin : ≈ 3,19 kg CO₂e 1 m² of animal leather : ≈ 60.81 kg CO₂e The production of the RUSH generates approximately 9,65 kg of CO₂e. For comparison, an ORIGIN pair made of animal leather would emit 30.11 kg of CO₂e CO₂e estimates are based on Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) and impact calculations provided by our material suppliers and third-party tools (FAIRLY MADE®) in 2023, as well as MoEa’s internal eco-design calculations. HOW IT'S MADE It all begins in the orchards of South Tyrol, Italy. Apple residues collected from the food industry, are dried and ground into a fine powder before being mixed with a solvent-free binder. This paste is then applied to a recycled polyester and cotton backing. The result? A flexible and durable material that transforms over 30,000 tons of annual agricultural waste in a factory powered by 100% renewable energy.
